Harry's Tap Room - Pentagon City

The well-known Arlington establishment, Harry’s Tap Room, has now opened doors in the Fashion Centre at Pentagon City Mall. Before settling on Pentagon City, Michael Sternberg, Co-President and Co-Founder, and his team searched all over the county for the perfect spot for another Harry’s. He explains, “We felt that the Pentagon Mall location was a great opportunity that we could not pass up.” Sternberg also admits that he and a co-leader of Simon Malls are long-time friends and were thrilled to finally be doing business together.

Being a staple in Clarendon for so many years, Harry’s at Pentagon City opened on October 23rd and has already been attracting new patrons. Hungry shoppers are enticed by the popular “Pick Two” and “Pick Three” lunch menus. The menus feature five half sandwiches, two soups, and three salads and patrons are able to pick any two or three items from this list. “They can even pick three sandwiches if they want,” Sternberg states, “we don’t want to restrict our patrons’ orders.” Their second most popular lunch pick are their burgers – beef and bison.

Harry’s takes pride in the fact that they utilize only the freshest, natural, local ingredients. For this reason, the menu varies depending on season and availability of certain products. To find out where the current items such as zucchini and wild mushrooms came from, see the bottom section of the menu, “Farm2Table.” “This is what we feel distinguishes us the most from other ‘American grille’ type establishments,” Sternberg adds. Much of the produce comes from the northeast, including New Jersey and Pennsylvania, where Sternberg has many connections. Various cities in these two states were also in the running for the new location.

 When entering Harry’s at the Pentagon City Mall is not apparent that it’s a shopping a mall restaurant— they stand alone with their welcoming and comforting customer service. “Our restaurant philosophy is based on breaking the barriers that prevent people from coming to an establishment such as price, parking, and customer service.”

There are many other reasons to check out Harry’s, one of them being their incredibly detailed and extensive wine list. The list is separated into sections for reds, whites, and pinks, and then into subsections with titles such as, “soft, light, and easy” and “rich, graceful, and distinguished” to help patrons find the perfect matches for all of the appetizers and entrees.

 Why was the name “Harry’s Tap Room” chosen for a restaurant serving such a wide array of cuisines and drinks? Sternberg explains, “We didn’t want a name that was pretentious. Our goal is to make every patron comfortable— not to make them feel out of place. ‘Tap Room’ is a very down-to-earth name that lets patrons discover our menu items for themselves.” It’s still unclear who this Harry guy is but his ‘tap room’ is certainly worth a visit.
